Neat rain gif. Thinking outside the box for sure!

Had three young Eastern Bluebirds in the nest this year. We had gotten a lot of rain so it was hard to keep a check on them. The one day, the wife said she had seen a dead one in the yard near the nest. So the following day it was clear. I spotted the female flying up and don . Noticed one of the young on the ground she was feeding. Watched for a bit and noticed there was no male helping. They always share the duties of raising the young. I decided to check the nesting box. There he was. For what ever reason, he was dead in the box. And it was not a pretty sight. That must have been the reason the young left the box early. Anyhow, this is the sole one that made it. Not the best shot as the 70-200 is not a good birding lens.

Sad story, nice shot Pete. I haven't seen their young before.

I was looking at the first page of your postings and saw the "vape" image and that reminded me that I recently read somewhere that these "vapourettes" (couldn't think of their real name) are, in fact, hazardous to one's health. Apparently they have a tendency to explode without warning. I guess they contain a single battery and then the electronic circuitry that makes them operate. They are mostly made in China and I guess there are no standards  . The story I saw was about some guy who lost part of a hand when one exploded :o .

So I guess it is back to the old adage of Buyer Beware.

About the bluebirds life and death, I have to wonder if something didn't kill the male in the nest and in the process, the little one got turfed out. Maybe the mother returned to find the result and is now feeding the remaining little one. Life and death in nature, unfortunate, but a fact of life. Nice capture of the little one.

Thanks guys. Appreciate it.

WG, people just can not get away without looking and being stupid. Most of the ones that have blown up have been modified in one way or another but why would you want o inhale that crap? Any idiot in the world knows that it can not be good for you.

I hate it about the Bluebird also . It is sad but, at least one made it.
