How do you get this shot...
The trick is to watch and study your subjects and not just throw the camera up and shoot when you forst see something. For instance this shot of a White-winged Dove perplexes many bird photographers. All you have to do is watch birds to know that they rotate and cup their wings to slow down before landing...the doves and pigeons do this almost in slow motion. Find a spot where they often land, for instance a branch near food or water. Pre-focus and ready your camera just above and in front(the direction the birds are coming from) then wait and just before they get there start shooting. It is really that simple. If you want to show a little wing blur use a slower shutter speed, if you want to stop all the action set the speed above 1/1000. Your Fstop should be stopped down for maximum DoF until you get the hang of taking these sorts of shots, then open wide to get that nice blurred background.

There are no banal subjects in photography, but an infinite number of banal ways to illustrate them.
