Didereaux, well excuuuuse me. Maybe I shouldn't bother trying to help. There's a big difference between working 2 minutes on someone else's 500k file to show them how to brighten up their work a little and taking time on a 80mb file testing the amount of sharpening you limit to. And even with the "over sharpening", I was trying to show how to make a shot pop, not giving a lesson in PP. Why I'm explaining myself to you I don't know. And as far as my not wanting people to edit my shots, that's my choice, you can chuckle all you want. What I see as real irony, is why you didn't try to give a little help to Laura to possibly improve her shots since you seem to be so informed about bird PP. :S

Yes, I love birding...it's a challenge because the subjects don't always cooperate! :-)

Bob's Photography wrote:Thanks Laura, again, I really like your shots, but in my opinion, most shots (not just yours) need a little post work.
Here's what I did in a couple of minutes. 1) open midtones, 2)a touch of sharpen or sharpen edges or unsharp mask or any combo as necessary without overdoing it, 3)brighten and contrast a hair, 4)I also burned the top of the fence a hair to cut down on the glare a little.
Let me know what you think.

Bob

Looks good...thank you for taking the time to touch up my photo. I actually did a few of those things in Lightroom but they didn't seem to carry through to my post.

Bob's Photography wrote:I had a few minutes, so here is the other 2. The 2nd one I also got rid of the branch and little point coming in from the right, plus the stray hair on it's head, very distracting. The duck, I just opened up, unsharp mask, and tried to bring out little color in the eye.
I know some people are purists, show it as shot, so these are just my opinions. 8~

I try to get it close SOOC...but sometimes need to do a small amount of Lightroom work. I am not one to like to "see" that any work was done. Kind of like good plastic surgery. :-)

Sorry, Tom. Didn't mean for my very first post to cause a stir.

No worries Laura.
We photographers tend to get a bit passionate about what we do. Gotta step back and take a deep breath from time to time. :)

Laura, You do well with your captures. :) I only ever seem to get the bum end of the bird... I think I qualify as the worlds worst birder so I do appreciate seeing images such as yours. :)
