Collector of Fine Art BW Images

Post by Ernst-Ulrich Schafer »

Are you a collector? Here is a small portion of what I've collected over the years, hanging at my studio.

Best regards, Ernst

trade you my wall for your wall! Will even toss in a cat! ;)
There are no banal subjects in photography, but an infinite number of banal ways to illustrate them.

It is a pleasure to see your wall. It seems your studio does double duty as a fine art gallery - an impressive collection. And your bookcase image is frame worthy art in its own right.

My walls are a hodge hodge of things that I like - my aunt's oil paintings, some English pastoral things from the early 1900s, Northwest coastal art, southern folk art, and some of my own images. And my bookshelves are terrifying. It would be interesting to know what others have on their walls and in their bookshelves.

Do you print your own, or send away to a lab?

It depends Ed, When it comes to my work for clients generally I send my files to my prolab ( H&H ), however I do sell alot of matted & framed portrait BW and I will print those out on my Epson P800.
All of my personal BW work is printed by me.

A couple I've been following on facebook is Faye & Trevor Yerbury. Trevor is a 4 generation photographer and both of them are doing some wonderful Fine Art Nude work. About 6 or 7 months ago I purchased this image from
them and then recently the same image was on the cover of BW Magazine. What a gorgeous image.

I don't know what else can be said. The light is exquisite, and the pose looks exquisitely painful (!!) yet the model seems utterly relaxed. There are so many elements here that come together to make Fine Art. Outstanding. I think part of what makes a picture like this is to make it look easy.

(I prefer to present pictures in albums because I can put them in specific order.)
There is no light like back light. No, really. :)

For me, the elegance of the pose and the careful lighting is what sets this image apart from some similar.

She reminds me of an egret.

Nude fine art b&w in a rocky outdoor setting has somehow made me think of Jim Hill, wonder how he is, and think that he might enjoy this forum. I believe I'll try again to track him down with an invite. Some of the folks here know him and his work.
