"Memorial Day"

Here is a project I've been documenting since learning the craft of photography. I believe this will be my 40th year. I hope you will make the time to get out
and capture the services in your area. This two images was taken last year here in Port Angeles. 70-200mm f2.8, shot wide open.

Best to ya, Ernst

Wonderful. I know you are a veteran (about the same vintage as me), so I salute you for your service. That first picture has the look of bereavement. It tells the story instantly without caption owing to the unmistakable VFW and American Legionnaires softly in the background. AND it's backlit. ("There is no light like back light.")

Powerful images, very different but equally excellent. The expression of the first young lady is full of emotion suggesting she is moved by the ceremonies. I'm curious if that is the taps player on the left of the second one.

These things are hard for me, so I seldom attend. But I do admire yours!

Having been there and lost many I like the first but find power in the second. There's a dignity, and a power, buried within this.

As a side, I'm torn about including the man on the left, he is such an integral part of the image, but would it be stronger without him?

I'm curious to your thoughts and thank you for encouraging everyone to take part in our history! Thank you for that! S-

Memorial Day

Steve, Sorry for missing your question, I feel the 2nd person in the 2nd image makes that image much stronger. Ernst

Both are nice, but the first one is special, and really striking. It isn't often that such deep shadows inside and bright light outside can be combined effectively into a powerful image, but you've done it very well here.
