The Box That Light Came In

Post by minniev » Fri May 10, 2019 8:24 pm

There's a lot of ancient stories about how light came to be, and some involve it having been kept in a box till a bird tricked the old man who owned it into letting him play with the box whereupon he stole the ball of light and threw it into the sky. I made my own version of the story with a pirate chest and a dam bird instead of a bentwood box and a raven, but the inspiration was from the old stories. Suggestions and/or edits are appreciated.

I struggled with the box, which wasn't a very good image to start with. I may have to go back and try some re-do with a better box.

I agree that the chest is hard to identify. I would go further to say that I don't think it's even needed. The image is impressive enough without that bit of detail. While on the subject of distractions, I feel the birds in flight, upper right, are also not needed.

Overall I think this is one of your more eye catching and engaging compositions with your birds. When the post opened up I could help but utter a "wow!"

I do see what you mean. I did a trial using your suggestions. I may still go back and do one with a box, but a different and better one that I had here. Of course the title doesn't work any more ! I had to add a ball in his claw, since he didn't have his box to lean on.

so just thinking about your story....a suggestion would be to start small in the box with your light bubbles and funnel them bigger from there...as it is you have started big and gotten smaller if that makes sense.........your light has blossomed and dissipated if you will..

This works quite well. I love it!

Thanks.

A third variation on the theme, using one of my favorite ploys of mixing old art pieces and current photography.
