The light dawns

Post by Matt Quinn » Mon Jun 25, 2018 8:33 pm

Sometimes, it's the way someone explains an idea that enables me to understand it. The following two quotes from Thorsten Overgaard provided an awakening for me:

"Don't look into the sun. Look at things that reflect that light."

"...how alive things look is all a matter of the reflection of light."

I had somehow thought I had to include the source of the light; thus my constant shooting of trees against the sun. Here are two that I took after that insight, one last night and the second this morning:

I like the first one a lot. The second one makes me want to go to bed.

Images heavy with meaning. You do have a way with light.

Thanks Piet. I appreciate your support and encouragement. I hope these are not shots in the dark (!!!) and that I can continue to find these kinds of situations. Matt

There was a time when I started this journey that I was confused what photographers would fight over the language we know. It wasn't that one said it wrong and the other correct it, it was a full on word bash and I couldn't understand. It came to me though in your post, with those beautiful quotes that words are the written language we use when we can't show it with an image and it's important to get it right, just as much as we try to get the image right. 'Words are the language we use when we can't show it in an image.'

I love learning to see through another's eye, now I have the language too! S-
