Fingerwork In Snow

Post by minniev »

It's been a while since I had time to do my fingerwork exercises, so today I tried one just to get back in practice. I'll never learn anything new if I keep forgetting what I knew before that.

This is at Maroon Bells, on one of the trails. It's a little sketch, a little paint, a little photo, some scraps of this and that, some textures and backgrounds. I was going for a pastel, light/airy look that didn't have full detail, to capture the mood of first snow.

Lovely capture Minnie !!! I agree, once somethings learned, one has got to keep at it so not to forget, but to also hone those skills at the same time. Scraps of this and that works well and I love the term.

I love this image, good work. The way things fade out is very fog-like.

Thanks Dave. It looked absolutely nothing like this when I started of course. Just an overly contrasty image of a small waterfall that was lost in the jumble of rocks and snow. This is why editing is so much fun.

Thanks Piet. Some of the fade is in PS, some in overlays and blending.

I admit I had a Christmas Card moment when I started working on this one, and just followed the crumbs...

Thanks Frank!

This would make for an amazing children's book illustration, the style, part fiction, part reality, but tear the edges some! S-
