love that eye and beak and it is a beautiful bird. For me.. (tastes vary), I find it too high-key in the background and the yellow/green is too strong - it steals attention from the bird. Can't help with any of that... cause it is subjective and mileage will vary.

BUT - I think the blurred area on the top of the bird's head is too strong. I took a mixer brush and set the button to load the color on each stroke and then I selected a color I thought appropriate and restored a little bit of that edge on top of the bird's head. A trick worth experimenting with... (the bird's eye is just too strong for the head to fade away that quickly..).

-- Anyway, I only did it a little so that you can see what I'm talking about, Might need even more, and perhaps I gave the bird a flat head a little bit, but I wanted you to see what I meant.

thanks Piet...very subtle work and nicely done, I totally understand..thought I could get away with some sloppy mask work but got caught.....maybe I'll work it some more but not sure it's worth it.

He is pretty darned intriguing. Piet's almost imperceptible edit was an improvement. That large fierce sharp eye makes him look almost scary, a deranged dove that might have vampire tendencies. (those claws look intimidating too). I'd be tempted to do some texturing on him, but it might mess up that amazing eye.
